Understanding & Dealing with Stress

What is stress?

Well, it is a physical response. It is how our body deals with a new situation or life event. In stress or anxiety the body produces adrenalin and cortisol which build up in our system affecting our mental and physical health, and the efficacy of its operation, it begins to weaken the immune system, and long term has now been proven to alter our cell structure.

Studies have shown the workplace is the biggest contender for stress-related problems today, more people are actually taking time off work through stress than ever before....studying and taking exams are causing students more stress than ever before.

We all know a certain amount of stress is beneficial, we certainly need it sometimes to give us energy and motivation, but when you’re having trouble sleeping or your mind won't shut off, or you’re feeling angry and frustrated, exhausted, faint or dizzy or your heart’s pounding and your chest’s very tight just before suffering one of those dreaded panic attacks, well that’s the kind of stress that you shouldn't be suffering with. It often leads to stomach or heart problems, high blood pressure, overeating, under-eating smoking, drinking alcohol, or drug-taking.

Most of our behaviour, habits and fears are learned at the subconscious level and become instinctive and natural to us, so therefore any patterns of behaviour we want to change are more effectively altered at the subconscious level.

Hypnotherapy sessions will provide you with new coping mechanisms and will enable you to deal with daily problems and life experiences much more effectively and in a calm relaxed way. Using deep relaxation, the effects are felt much quicker, and at a deeper level. By teaching clients a specific breathing technique, removing poor habits, giving them new thought processes and coping mechanisms, over a period of weeks the changes become permanent, resulting in a more calm positive attitude to life, giving them more energy, better concentration, improved health and sleep patterns.
